Haiti Christian Orphanage exists to educate and develop boys and young men in a loving, Christ-centered environment. We want to see Haiti impacted in a positive way through the development of children at Haiti Christian Orphanage.
50 Years of Training Boys
Haiti Christian Orphanage (HCO) has been in existence for almost 50 years. It all started when AD VanHoose cried out to God saying, “Use me!” It didn’t take long for God to speak to Brother “Van” in miraculous ways and reveal to him that he was to go to Haiti. He followed God’s leading to Haiti despite his lack of connections, and ended up meeting President Duvallier who believed in his vision and gave him property in Petion-ville, Haiti. It was just a miraculous beginning to a journey that continues today!
Twenty-two orphaned or abandoned boys joined Brother Van in those early years. In time, HCO grew to include a school, church, and a feeding program for the community. The original building is still standing and now houses more than 40 boys who have no place to go. Some have been abandoned and some orphaned, but all these kids deserve a chance to know that they are loved and truly cared for.
HCO has been growing and changing throughout the years. In 2002, Brother Van passed away to be with His Lord and Savior. Upon his passing, his son, Pastor Rick VanHoose, took on the calling of caring and bringing hope and a future to the boys of HCO. In 2012, Pastor Rick, with the support of his Indiana church, The Cathedral, felt called to find a good organization to partner with HCO. The hope was that through this partnership, the orphanage would continue to grow and become even better and more effective in the future.
Pastor Rick contacted Praying Pelican Missions, a nonprofit, short-term mission organization, to see if they would be interested in partnering with HCO. After much prayer and consideration, Praying Pelican Missions decided to move forward in faith to pursue this opportunity.
To Many More Years
Haiti Christian Orphanage is located in Pétion-ville, Haiti along the foothills of the beautiful Kenscoff Mountains. As the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, simply finding clean drinking water, food to eat and a place to sleep is a challenge for many Haitian children. Those without parents have an even greater challenge to face. HCO’s mission is to create a loving, Christ-centered environment that not only provides for and educates our children, but helps them to reach their full potential as future leaders in their community. Our heart is to grow young men that will use their God-given abilities to impact Haiti for Christ.
